TYPE RATING INSTRUCTOR (TRI) CORE
This 5-day course provides the simulator or line indoctrination instructor with the tools required to excel. It meets all JAA and TC standards for this training. Our Core Course (train the trainer) has been designed to provide in depth information and training for aspiring professional trainers. This course is normally conducted in Ottawa and includes two practical simulator sessions in a Mechtronix Level 5 Turbo-prop Trainer.
Our trainers are all highly qualified aircrew with extensive instructional experience. Workshops, presentations, filmed briefing sessions and the simulator are used to develop and encourage competency in all areas of flight training.
The following topics are covered in a hands-on environment during 3 days in the classroom and 2 simulator sessions:

- Learning process
- Teaching process
- Teaching philosophy
- Instructional techniques
- Instructing CRM skills
- The flight test standard
- Briefing and debriefing techniques
- Student evaluation
- Study programs and implementation
- Human factors and limitations related to flight training
- Emergency/abnormal situations in simulator and during an aircraft flight
- IFR rules and procedures
- Administration and the teaching process
This course is offered several times per year at our facilities in Ottawa. The course size is limited to 9 students to ensure personalized training.

TYPE RATING INSTRUCTOR (TRI) TYPE SPECIFIC
This 6-day course provides the simulator instructor with the tools required to excel. It meets all JAA and TC standards for this training. Our Type Specific Course has been designed to provide in-depth information and training for instructors on a specific aircraft type. Types available are: A320/330, B737-800NG, EMB 190 and C550. Day one is a ground school covering the following topics: running the simulator, safety features, using the simulator’s advantages, ATC phraseology and vectors and debriefing techniques. The simulator phase consists of 5 sessions with the instructor totalling 20 hours of instruction which covers the major requirements for type training on the specific aircraft. This includes all systems and many abnormals, emergency procedures and aircraft handling exercises required on a type rating course. Our instructors “fly” the aircraft and present different learning styles and the student instructor must adapt to provide effective instruction.
This course uses CAE Level D simulators and is conducted by instructors with experience at a major airline or Transport Canada. It is held at different locations depending on the type, as follows:
Toronto – A320, EMB 190
Montreal – A330, B737-800NG
Ottawa – C550
Our trainers are all highly qualified aircrew with extensive instructional experience. Students must be paired for this course, with a maximum of 4 students per course.

TYPE RATING INSTRUCTOR (TRI) RECURRENT
This 2-day course is required for TRIs every 3 years. It meets all JAA and TC standards for this training. Our Recurrent Course has been designed for professional TRIs to get the latest information and training to stay up-to-date. This course is normally conducted in Ottawa and includes one practical simulator session.
Using group discussions, videos, presentations and the simulator this course encourages competency in all areas of flight training.

- Instructional techniques
- Instructing CRM skills
- The flight test standard
- Briefing and debriefing techniques
- Emergency/abnormal situations in simulator and during an aircraft flight

TYPE RATING INSTRUCTOR (TRI) TYPE ADD-ON
This 4-day course is required for current TRIs who wish to instruct on a new type. It meets all JAA and TC standards for this training. Our Add-on Course has been designed for professional TRIs to learn the new information necessary to instruct on the new type. This course is conducted in several locations depending on the simulator location. See the list under type specific TRI course. It includes one day of groundschool and 3 practical simulator sessions totalling 12 hours.

This course is offered on demand and requires a pair of students. The course size is limited to 4 students to ensure personalized training.
